The Thing You Never Knew
In the dead of the night
I typed up a message
and I poured my heart out
knowing you’d smile
at the words you never heard.
It was short, but sweet
and straight to the point.
But I never pressed send
so I’ll never really know
exactly what you thought.
In the middle of class
when I should’ve
been taking notes
I wrote you a letter
and I poured my heart out
knowing you’d smile

It was beautifully written
in a neat, careful script
But I never put it
in an envelope to mail
so I guess I’ll never know
exactly what you thought.
And now I’ve come to the end
and I’m writing you this poem
and it doesn’t really
make any sense
because what does it say
of the thing you never knew?
I just thought you should know
I always loved you.

There’s no such thing as a real or fake person. We’re all real, regardless of the way we let people see us. No one will ever be 100% understood and that’s perfectly fine. You are who you are in the moment, so forget the past and don’t worry about the future because this is who you are now, in this very second. Make who you are now a person worth remembering with smiles later.
